US President Donald Trump is working to overturn the pardons granted by former President Joe Biden to lawmakers and staff on the January 6 House Select Committee. President Trump declared the pardons "void," claiming they were issued using an autopen rather than being personally signed by Biden. In a post on his social media platform Truth on Monday, Trump wrote, “The ‘Pardons’ that Sleepy Joe Biden gave to the Unselect Committee of Political Thugs, and many others, are hereby declared VOID, VACANT, AND OF NO FURTHER FORCE OR EFFECT, because of the fact that they were done by Autopen.” He continued to say that Biden neither signed the pardons himself nor was aware of them. Later that day, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the controversy during a media conference, in which she blamed Biden’s “impaired cognitive” state as the reason behind the pardons.
