But one thing has always been a bit lackluster—the city’s industrial park. And while many cities might look to grow their industrial base, Segunda Beach is on track to phase theirs out completely. That direction was made clear during the recent comprehensive planning process, when the future land use for the industrial park was changed to residential. Because of that move, Drake Oil’s CEO, Russ Becker, is looking elsewhere for a new fuel plant. He’s identified a site just outside of Segunda Beach that’s perfect for a the fuel plant, as well as a cargo harbor and freight rail yard. And he’s using his connections at the statehouse to get it done—securing funding, zoning entitlements, and even incorporation of the area as a brand new city that welcomes industry. In this episode, we’re building that new industrial hub from the ground up. A cargo harbor, regional rail depot, and fuel plant are just the start.
