Former US President Barack Obama has labelled President Trump's response to the migrant caravan a 'political stunt.' 'They're telling us the single most grave threat to America is a bunch of poor, impoverished, broke, hungry refugees a thousand miles away,' Obama said during a rally for Democratic senator Joe Donnelly in Indiana. Trump has fixed on the caravan and immigration as a whole taking a hardened stance in a bid to rouse his political base ahead of congressional elections on Tuesday. The Pentagon this week said it was deploying more than 5,200 troops to the border at Trump's direction to confront the men, women and children traveling through Mexico as they flee violence and poverty in Central America. Trump has characterised it as an 'invasion' of migrants Subscribe to Guardian News on YouTube ► http://bit.ly/guardianwiressub Today in Focus podcast ► https://www.theguardian.com/news/series/todayinfocus Support the Guardian ► https://theguardian.com/supportus The Guardian YouTube network: The Guardian ► www.youtube.com/theguardian Owen Jones talks ► http://bit.ly/subsowenjones Guardian Football ► http://is.gd/guardianfootball Guardian Sport ► http://bit.ly/GDNsport Guardian Culture ► http://is.gd/guardianculture
