Places to see in ( Lubeck - Gremany ) Sankt Jakobi Church St. Jakobi is one of the five Protestant Lutheran parish churches in Lübeck's old town. It was consecrated in 1334 as a church of sailors and fishermen who still have their Schütting in the opposite Schiffergesellschaft . Her patron is Saint James the Elder . The church, the Holy Spirit Hospital and the neighboring Gertrudenherberge are stops on a branch of the Way of St. James from Northern Europe to Santiago de Compostela . Since September 2007, the northern tower chapel of the church as the Pamir Chapel National Memorial for Civil Maritime . The Jakobikirche is a three-aisled brick hall church . The present building on Koberg was built around 1300 and replaced after the great fire of 1276 a Romanesque hall church in the same place, which was already mentioned around 1227. [B 1] It is believed that round arch friezes in the area of the church tower and the side walls are components of this predecessor building. Since the Gothic construction in 1300, the church has three naves with five yokes, each of which is completed by a choir to the east. The walls of the nave overlook the two aisles by five meters. The tower of the church reveals similar to that of St. Petersomething about the changing construction intentions over time. First designed as a central single tower and started in the execution, the northern and the southern side chapel were executed so strong that initially as well as in St. Peter the plan must have existed to equip the church as the St. Mary's Church and the cathedral with a twin tower. Also, the plan to rebuild the hall church at the end of the 13th century to a basilica , can be read from the still existing building findings, but the implementation has been abandoned. The important medieval frescoes of the church were rediscovered during renovations at the end of the 19th century. St. Jakobi remained undamaged as one of the few churches in Lübeck during the bombing raid on Palm Sunday night 1942. It therefore has the last two historical organs of Lübeck. Next to the church, towards Koberg, are the pastor's houses in the style of the Dutch brick renaissance on the Jakobikirchhof . In the church is located in the northern tower chapel a memorial to the remaining at sea Lübeck sailors. Here is also the wreckage of a lifeboat of the 1957 sunken four-masted barque Pamir , in whose demise 80 of the 86 crew members were killed. On 21st September 2007, the memorial was declared a national civilian maritime memorial by the will of the parish, provincial and federal governments. Under the chapel there is a columbarium . On the north side of the nave there is a relief plate marking the first station of the oldest preserved Way of the Cross in Germany. The Lübeck Way of the Cross leads from here first through the Breite Straße to the chancellery building and back through the Große Burgstraße , the Burgtor and over the Burgfeld to the end point on the Jerusalemsberg in the suburb of St. Gertrud .
