I think it’s not typical for women to ask for prenuptial agreements, but I did. When I was living in Vancouver with my ex-husband, we had plans to move to the States so I could help my grandparents, and then move/settle in Australia. Our relationship was moving quickly, and I wanted to ensure that both of us were protected: 1. I knew the relationship was progressing fast. 2. To legally protect both of us. 3. Because most people don’t realize that when you sponsor someone for immigration, you are legally responsible for them—even after divorce. As a natural-born citizen of the U.S., with a family history of legal immigration [grandparents immigrated to the USA], I knew the risks of being a sponsor. If my ex got into financial trouble or legal issues, I could be held accountable for up to 10 years, even if we got divorced. Even if weren’t together. That’s why I strongly believe in prenups, especially today. Back then, I didn’t own a business, but now I do. A prenup is not just about money—it’s about setting clear boundaries, respect, & ensuring fairness. It’s an agreement you customize based on what’s appropriate for both parties, and it can actually strengthen a relationship by setting clear expectations upfront. 💜 Love is about PREVENTION as much as it is about PROTECTION. Ironically, during our divorce, the prenup became a major point of contention—but not from me. He was the one who got livid about it. Why? Because in the divorce process, every financial detail has to be disclosed, and there were things he was hiding that I had no idea about Prenups are often perceived as negative, but I see them as a smart, strategic move—especially for women. They aren’t about distrust; they’re about security. And if more women considered them, they could avoid a lot of unexpected financial & legal consequences. - Liana Vibes #prenup #prenuptialagreement #divorce #marriageplanning #familylaw #divorcelawyer #marriagelawyer #relationshipadvice #financialfreedom #legalprotection #protectyourassets #divorcesupport #relationshipboundaries #financialplanning #relationshipsecurity #financialindependence #healthyrelationships
