We all know that the way we present ourselves (market ourselves/brand ourselves) is important; but many of us agonize over the process. The unique spin of this talk is that it proposes an explanation for why many of us dread the prospect of marketing ourselves to prospective employers - to the point that we seem to find it shameful. After proposing an explanation of the source of that shame, this presentation encourages us to reject the source, leaving us free to reconsider the process of marketing ourselves in a new light, with an open mind, and with a better chance of achieving our goals. *At the time Darcee Caron was presenting, she was 7 months pregnant. Women can do anything! :) Darcee is a Luxembourgish/American who has been studying and working in Paris for the past 6.5 years. In her current role, she continues to oversee the American University of Paris’ internship program and she is responsible for AUP’s new flagship initiative: the Global Professional Skills (GPS) Program. The GPS Program supports AUP undergraduate students helping them make intentional choices about how they invest their time, encouraging them to think proactively about their life after university. Academically, Darcee is interested in the assessment and evaluation of experiential and co-curricular learning. She has plans to pursue a PhD on this topic in the coming years. Darcee’s talk will propose an explanation for why many of us dread the prospect of marketing ourselves to prospective employers - to the point that we seem to find it shameful.
