Among the most common types of hair loss is telogen effluvium and is commonly seen in women. It is a temporary thinning of the hair in the scalp due to the changes in the growth cycle of the hair and this leads to increased shedding of the telogen hair in the growth cycle. This can be acute or chronic. Acute where there is loss of hair around three months and chronic where there is history more than three months. Acute telogen effluvium is seen in people who have suffered fevers for a long time like typhoid, dengue and malaria or after childbirth or delivery, after accidental trauma, after a long emotional distress or after major surgical operations where there is severe hemorrhage and in people who are using medications like oral contraceptives or hormonal treatments, etc.
