The Hand of Irulegi is a bronze artifact shaped like a human right hand, discovered in 2021 near Irulegi in Navarre, Spain. Dating to the 1st century BC, it is over 2,000 years old and features an inscription in an ancient form of the Basque language. The inscription’s first word, “sorioneku,” is similar to the modern Basque word for “good fortune,” making this the oldest known written example of Basque and a significant find for the region’s linguistic and cultural history. #history #artifact #bronzeage #archaeologist #archaeological #archaeology
