In this short, I show how to make compost the easiest way. Keeping the compost in a trash can keeps it nice and neat. Compost needs air, so it is critical to put holes in the bottom and sides of the can. Layering the elements correctly will help speed up the breakdown of the compost. I mulched the leaves using a lawn mower, then added it to the bottom of the trashcan. The next step is to add the food scraps to the mix. Once that is done, add a handful of soil to the trashcan and water it. These steps are repeated until the trashcan is filled to the top. I leave the top off of the can. Turning the compost is important to speed up the breakdown of the food waste. The materials need to stay moist to keep the microbes happy.
