#InstaLIVE with @assaelpearls X @thediamondtalk Thank you, dear Peggy and the entire team at Assael for helping me curate an insightful and educational talk on Precious Coral. Here are some insights from the conversation: ✨Unlike most gemstones which are of mineral origin; Precious Coral is organically formed by living organisms branching, antler-like structures created from coral polyps in tropical and subtropical ocean waters. When the coral polyps die, the hardened skeleton remains, and this material is what is used as a gemstone. ✨From amongst 7,300 coral species, only 10 are considered precious coral by the fine jewelry industry, with the purest Red Mediterranean Coral and the light pink Angel’s Skin Coral as probably the most popular in the world of fine jewelry. ✨For centuries, Precious Coral or Red coral from the Mediterranean has been appreciated for its deep, rich hues. The most precious coral used in jewelry today is a genus of the species Corallium Rubrum or Sardinian Coral or the coral which is found deep below the ocean's surface. ✨Japanese origin Natural Angel Skin Coral is beyond rare and unavailable for decades. Assael Inc discovered a trove of Gem Angel Skin Coral harvested before 1980; ranging from pink to a vibrant orange-pink, these responsibly sourced Angel Skin Coral make stunning new designs. ✨With Assael’s longstanding commitment to the sea and the environment only ethically and legally sourced coral is used in all the jewels. ✨Special care must be taken when handling coral. These gemstones are very soft and brittle and prone to scratches and chipping. Avoid contact with cosmetics, lotions, perfumes, hair spray, harsh chemicals and over-exposure to strong light and dry heat. Aren’t we forever grateful to nature for not only serving us from time to time but also for inspiring us endlessly? So, which type of precious coral would you like to adorn?
