These large stretches of lines of solar panels are part of the country’s bid to transition to clean energy. India is the world’s third-biggest carbon emitter, with 70 per cent of the country’s electricity generated by coal. At the COP26 climate conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pledged to produce half of India’s energy from renewables by 2030. The country’s clean energy capacity has already increased five-fold in just over a decade to 100 gigawatts. But more is required to achieve the country’s ambitious 2030 goals.
