I didn't do the best job of making it clear, so just to reiterate: Emergent attractor networks are used to model perception, memory, imagination, and attention. They're essentially recurring patterns of activity across many neurons, emerging naturally because of how the neurons connect at their synapses. What comes out of this is something called an attractor, which represents universal motifs, concepts, etc. Up until this point, no one (as far as I know) has tried to apply it to dreams. But if it plays a role in memory, and memory is the building block of dreams, I don't see why more research shouldn't be put into how it affects dreams.
