Eilean Donan Castle, spectacularly sited on an island at the head of Loch Duich, is one of the most recognized castles in Scotland, and probably appears on more shortbread tins and calendars than any other. Eilean Donan was involved in many raids and sieges, reduced to rubble and authentically reconstructed to its medieval state in the mid 1900s. Several of the rooms are open to the public, including the billeting room, with 14-foot thick walls and a barrel-vaulted ceiling, and the banqueting hall, with fine Sheraton and Chippendale furniture. The small island of Donan stands off the north bank of Loch Duich, in a stunningly beautiful location surrounded by hills. The island has been fortified since the Iron Age, and there is evidence of a vitrified fort beneath the foundations of Eilean Donan Castle. Another ancient remain is the outline of a human foot, carved into the rock. _______________________________________________ © Copyright information: All music, sound effects, graphics, animations and video segments contained in my videos are used in strict compliance with the appropriate permissions and licenses required from https://www.epidemicsound.com/, https://www.pond5.com/, https://www.gettyimages.com/, https://pexels.com, https://pixabay.com and https://unsplash.com in accordance with the YouTube Partner Program, Community guidelines & YouTube terms of service.
