When Jagmohan Dalmiya joined the BCCI in 1979, England had complete dominance over the cricket industry. But he believed that cricket could become a huge thing in India, so he fought hard to host the 1987 World Cup in India. Dhirubhai Ambani sponsored this World Cup, recognizing the potential for making a lot of money from cricket in India. Previously, BCCI used to pay Doordarshan 500,000 rupees to broadcast matches, but he shifted to selling TV rights for the matches. For the 1996 World Cup, BCCI sold the broadcasting rights for 10 million dollars. Thanks to him, a lot of money started flowing into Indian cricket, and he also ensured that Indian players benefited from it. However, in 2005, he was removed from the BCCI due to some allegations. Despite this, he became BCCI president again in 2015, but he passed away that same year at the age of 85.
