A lot of people have been asking Nvidia why the RTX 3080 and 3070 will come equipped with only 10 and 8gb of Vram respectively. Well, they kind of answered that in their latest Q&A. They say that the 3080 is actually designed for gaming at up to 4k resolution with all the settings maxed out. They then give examples. A list of games, at 4k, maxed out, And with RTX ON, will get about 60 to 100FPS and use about 4 to 6gb of Vram. That "list" that Nvidia is talking about includes Shadow of the tomb raider, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Metro Exodus, Wolfenstein Youngblood, Gears of War 5, Borderlands 3, and Red Dead Redemption 2. Now that's great for those games. But what about other ones? You have examples like doom eternal which on ultra nightmare settings at 1440P will use about 7.5gb of Vram. Jump to 4k and you crossed the 8GB limit that the RTX 3070 has. If the RTX 3070 is as powerful as an RTX 2080 ti, that's a problem since it has no difficulty running at those settings…Maybe that's why Nvidia decided to stick to the RTX 3080 for the Doom eternal demo. Plus, DLSS And ray tracing use more Vram. DLSS especially, so any future games that support these features might be too much for a 3070. Now not everyone games at 4k and the RTX 3070 might not have been advertised for it, But let's be real, the push to higher resolution monitors is not going to end soon. --------------------------------- TODAY'S DOSE OF TECH NEWS SOURCES --------------------------------- Nvidia Q&A : https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/ilhao8/nvidia_rtx_30series_you_asked_we_answered/ ------------------- About Boot Sequence: Snows and the rest of the Boot Sequence team are here to bring you the latest breaking Tech News.
