So let's get back to the question... creatine pills or powder, which is better? Now..... if you`re asking this question you could mean one of two things. The first is... Are there any advantages to taking creatine in pill form as opposed to taking it in a powdered form? Or you might mean... Are the types of creatine typically sold in pill format better and more effective than those sold in powdered format? In this video, I'm going to answer the first question - Are there any advantages to taking creatine in a pill form as opposed to taking it in a powdered form. I'll answer the second question in a follow video. I'll include a link to that video at the end of this one. So, are there any advantages of pills over powders? Well of course there are - pills are easier to deal with, you don`t have to deal with a gritty tasting powder that immediately floats to the bottom of the glass if you don`t slug it all back right away. And of course, you don`t need to worry about lugging a shaker cup in your gym bag if you`re using pills. On the other hand, you are going to pay a lot more for the pill form and taking an effective dose will not be anywhere near as cost effective as the powder. Now... As far as whether pill forms are better than powder as far as absorption goes - well, most of the creatine pills that I can remember taking has simply had creatine pôwder inserted into a gelatin cap. And a gelatin cap is little more than a simple delivery system - it`s very quickly broken down in the stomach, and does not delay the release of the ingredients in any meaningful way, and as a result, is not more effective. Now, If we`re talking about specially formatted pills that are time released or enteric coated and designed to digest in the small intestine, then it`s up to the manufacturer to prove in a clinical trial that their product outperforms simple powders - because we can`t assume that they will. Without a clinical trial, claims for boosted effectiveness can only be considered as advertising. And, to make matters worse most companies don`t do this, so almost all claims of improved performance are based more on marketing hype than actual scientific data. Plus, there's one other thing to consider... Even if there is a pill form of creatine that allows you to take a 1/4 of the normal dose of creatine powder and still get the same results, how much of a benefit does it really provide when you have to spend 10 times as much money for the priviledge? Not much, in my opinion. So to summarize... For the most part, there`s no significant benefit in taking creatine in a simple gelatin caps vs. powder, other than the convenience factor, unless... 1) The retailer can provide real proof that their delivery system outperforms a simple powder. 2) The powder is actually a different variation of creatine that has unique properties of its own.
