In case you don't know who Laura Secord was: https://youtu.be/_L-vL5NFkYA?si=7gSTloEi_nyftjJu Join me on Sunday Morning and the Old Cookbook Show as we dive into the 1966 Laura Secord Canadian Cookbook, a Centennial project by Laura Secord Candy Company! Today we’re baking Skidaddle Ridge Drop Cookies—a quirky fruit cocktail cookie from vintage Canada. Watch step-by-step as we cream butter and brown sugar, fold in vanilla, egg, and a whole can of fruit cocktail, plus crunchy pecans (or your favourite nuts). We’ll talk about why these soft molasses-style cookies are perfect with tea, and whether you should chill the dough before baking. Plus, hear an update on my IFR flight training, new cockpit electronics, and how I’m gearing up for the 2025 Give Hope Wings fundraiser with Hope Air. Learn how you can support free medical flights for Canadians in remote communities—links and our early-June flight itinerary are in the description below. 🔔 Subscribe for more retro baking, old cookbook recipes, camp cooking stories, and charity updates! Skidaddle Ridge Drop Cookies Recipe Skidaddle Ridge, New Brunswick, came by its name because It was a hide-out for draft dodgers. Most of them returned home after the war, but many stayed to settle in Brunswick and Southern Quebec.. These cookies are frequently packed in the lunch boxes carried by hunters of this region.
