I'm a performer and vocal coach from Australia and I'm here to help you become a better singer. If you haven't done so already consider subscribing for more video like this one. When you are learning how to sing it can be tempting to dive straight into wanting to know how to sing high notes, how to increase your vocal range or how to sing with more power. How to sing vowels is probably not high on that list but it is a requirement of every desirable singing goal. The singing vowels ee, ay, ah ,oh and oo compared to nasal sounds like m and n and voiced consonants like L and R make up the majority of the sustained notes that you sing, well at least that is the goal. You sustain your voice through the vowels while the consonants are present to give your singing clarity. The vocal exercise I'm going to share with you contains the 5 major vowels in an ascending and descending scale. It goes like this: Watch the video for the vowels demonstration The vowels are moving from wide to closed and then back to wide by the end of the scale. It might take you a few attempts to get it right as my private students usually discover! This exercise is also great for articulation as your tongue, jaw and lips are required to change position for each vowel shape. You will be singing this exercise in the lower part of your vocal range as there is some vowel modification that needs to happen to sing higher without strain or distortion of tone. Make sure that you sing in your comfortable range. If the exercise becomes too high or low stop and wait for the piano to return to an easier pitch. Let's go: Watch the Video - Master Your Singing Vowels Exercise So that is a great exercise for your singing vowels. How many attempts did it take to get the combination right? Let me know below.
