An Aboriginal Dreamtime story, retold and illustrated by Joanna Troughton, based upon natural history facts. The giant frog, Tiddalik, drank all the water in the world and the only way to stop the ensuing drought was to make him laugh and spill the water. However, all the animals cannot raise a giggle until Platypus comes out of her hole. *In Central Australia there are frogs which survive drought by drinking so much water that they become as round as balls. Then they bury themselves and wait for the rains to come again. It is thought that this is the origin of the Indigenous Australian dreamtime story of Tiddalik, and how he drank all the water in the world. We pay our respects to the traditional custodians of the land upon which this story was shared. We pay respect to the Elders past, present and emerging.
