This is my simple-as-it-gets outhouse. You may ask: •Why doesn’t it have a door? I don’t know! I didn’t build this outhouse- I just rent the cabin from the owner. It’s not too much of a bother, actually. Nobody else is around the outhouse and you get a nice view of the woods + aurora borealis. •Why don’t you get a compost toilet? I’ve considered getting another toilet system in addition to the outhouse to keep in the cabin (as it would be more comfortable/convenient in the winter months) I’m still settling in and figuring out what I need. I don’t think there’s a good place to put one inside, really, and the stroll outside isn’t that bad. •But doesn’t it get cold? Sure does! It was -50°F last week. But the dry cold doesn’t feel all that bad. •Aren’t you scared of running into a moose/bear walking out there? I was a little nervous when I first moved in and still find myself being on high alert when walking out there, but big animals are not commonly seen in the “neighborhood” that I’m located in- just the occasional squirrel or fox.
