What Settings To Use For Portrait Photography Portrait photography is complicated, and to take a great portrait, you need to make sure your camera is ready. There are a lot of things we're concerned with getting right for a portrait, including getting accurate focus, metering the subject properly, getting accurate colors, managing depth of field, and of course, getting a great exposure. Managing depth of field and getting a great exposure are more about process than they are about a specific set of settings, and we'll deal with them in a bit. For focus, color and metering, there are specific settings you can use to insure you nail the perfect portrait.
