Typhoon Ampil is setting its sights for Tokyo and is currently intensifying quickly, with a distinct eye clearing out and convection continuing to fire on its western side. The storm could reach Category 3 status before passing close to the Tokyo and Chiba region, with a landfall possible. The storm will quickly veer off to the northeast and clear the area by Saturday. Hurricane Ernesto is gradually intensifying north of Hispaniola, and is expected to turn towards the northeast tomorrow and head towards Bermuda. A Hurricane Watch is already in effect, and it looks fairly unavoidable that Bermuda will receive hurricane conditions this weekend. The storm may also slow down in the area and drop huge amounts of rainfall, before pushing on towards the Canadian Maritimes. Elsewhere, more storms are possible in the Eastern Pacific this weekend and next week, and an area of interest still shows promise in the Southwest Indian Ocean. Another storm could also form near Taiwan next week.
