To set this exercise up properly, place a bench in the Smith machine and align yourself so the bar is right above your collarbone. Using a shoulder-width grip, lower the bar to your collarbone while keeping your elbows tucked close to your sides and letting them move away from the bar. Once you reach the bottom of the range of motion, which will ideally be when your forearms start to completely overlap with your biceps, press the bar straight up while keeping your elbows close to your sides. If you’ve never tried this exercise before, I can promise that it’s going to feel different than anything else you’ve ever done before.
