The age of industrial AI robotics has officially begun. At CES 2026 in Las Vegas, Boston Dynamics and Hyundai Motor Group revealed the production version of the Atlas® robot. No longer a research project, Atlas is now a fully electric, production-ready humanoid built to transform industrial work. Why is the new Atlas so special? • Exceptional agility: Atlas has 56 degrees of freedom, fully rotating joints, and a reach of 2.3 meters (7.5 ft). • Powerful performance: Designed for demanding tasks, it can lift up to 50 kg (110 lbs). • Advanced AI: In partnership with Google DeepMind, Atlas uses powerful AI models that allow it to learn new tasks in less than a day. • Full autonomy: Atlas works independently, including navigating to charging stations and replacing its own batteries without human help. • Built for tough conditions: It is water-resistant and operates in temperatures from –20°C to 40°C. Deployment & future plans: Under the vision of “Partnering Human Progress,” Hyundai aims for human-centered automation, where robots take on dangerous and repetitive jobs. Atlas will begin deployment in 2026 at Hyundai facilities and Google DeepMind. By 2028, it will be used at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) for parts sequencing, with plans to scale production to 30,000 units per year.
