After securing the Republican nomination at this week's Republican National Convention (RNC), former President Trump named Senator JD Vance (R-Oh.) as his vice presidential pick and running mate. Vance not only opposes major subsidies to electric vehicles — a core policy from the Biden administration in its green transition — but has been an outspoken critic of Ukraine and its leadership under President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the nation's war with Russia. Supporting Ukraine in its war effort to repel Russian forces has "been expensive, it's been probably 5% of our defense budget is what we're providing to the Ukrainians in terms of the military support. So there is a cost to this, but for 5% of the defense budget, the Ukrainians are holding back one of our two major enemies," former US Ambassador to Ukraine William Taylor states.
