I recently had a chance to see "Shocking," a retrospective of the work of the groundbreaking surrealist designer Elsa Schiaparelli in the @madparis in Paris. This, however, isn't the first exhibition devoted to her oeuvre. This show differs from others in its focus on Schiaparelli's relationship with artists like Man Ray, Jean Cocteau, and, of course, Salvador Dalí. There are also a heavy focus on the relationship between Schiaparelli house codes and the work of the brand's current creative director @danielroseberry. In fact, the show includes the latest and greatest from the House of Schiaparelli, including looks plucked off their most recent runways and gowns worn by Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and Bella Hadid. In this way, we can see the influence of the current @schiaparelli who financed the show. "Shocking" unshockingly functions as an ad for the house, revealing the cozy relationship between curation and commerce in fashion exhibitions. #fashion #fashion #fashionhistory #dresshistory #paris #hautecouture
