Honorary leading Drum Major Ian Esson leads the combined Pipe Bands over the river Dee bridge into Ballater. This was on Thursday 8th August 2024, as the combined bands marched to the Ballater Highland Games, which were celebrating their 160th anniversary. There were members of 11 Pipe Bands taking part here, including Ballater & District Pipe Band, Granite City Pipes & Drums, Aberlour & Community Pipe Band, Kintore Pipe Band, Towie Pipe Band, Ellon & District RBL Pipe Band, Lathallan School Pipe Band, Gordon Highlanders Association Drums & Pipes, Culter & District 47th Boy’s Brigade, and members of Dalhousie Pipe Band from Switzerland and Blacksmith Pipers of Lower Austria (Vienna). With Drum Major Esson were Drum Majors Robb Cumming, Bert Summers, Bill Barclay, Fiona Glennie, Neil Jamieson, Rob Brownfield, Phillip Michie, Ronnie Rennie, Fraser Dyer and Derek Dean. The bands were playing Scotland the Brave, Flett from Flotta and Wings.
