In this remastered video, we take a look at the period between WWI and WWII. We first look briefly at social changes with regard to women, class, and the increased of consumer culture during the Roaring Twenties. And yet, despite economic prosperity, this increased wealth was the result of unsustainable economic growth, which would eventually result in the Great Depression (i.e. the Big Sad*). We then look at government responses to the Great Depression, including in liberal democracies (USA, France, Great Britain), in authoritarian states (Germany, Italy, and Japan), and in pre-industrial societies in Africa and Asia. Happy Days are Here Again! *Please do not refer to the Great Depression as the Big Sad.
