The Transportation Ministry closed the Coquihalla Highway northbound from Hope to Merritt, B.C., on Friday due to a sinkhole. Officials said the route will be fully closed to traffic in both directions starting at 9 p.m. The Ministry of Transportation said the sinkhole was discovered on Thursday evening by a contractor in the northbound slow lane. “Crews responded quickly and determined that the sinkhole was an isolated incident related to Trans Mountain’s pipeline boring work in the area,” the ministry said in a statement.
