Thus, of all the sense organs, the human eye is the most significant one as it enables us to see the beautiful, colorful world around us. A human eye is the most important organ of our body which is an optical device that serves as our organs of sight. The human eye is like a camera. The Eyeball of the human eye is spherical in shape. The diameter of the eyeball is 2.3cm. Though there is a marginal difference in size in some people. It consists of a tough fibrous membrane called sclera that protects the internal parts of the eye. Cornea: It is responsible for the maximum refraction (bending) of the light that enters the eye. Iris: The ring-shaped membrane behind the cornea is iris and it has an adjustable circular opening. Pupil: The pupil regulates and controls the amount of light entering the eye. The lens: The eye lens forms an inverted real image of the object on the retina. Retina: The screen of the eye is referred to as retina because the light rays come through the pupil and pass through the lens and converge on a screen called the retina. Suspensory ligament: These are elastic-like structures present in the eye that helps to keep the lens in its position. Ciliary muscles: They help in adjusting the focal length of the lens by contraction or relaxing. The vitreous humor lies behind the lens and forms the bulk of the eye. Optical nerves: There are some nerves that connect the retina to the brain and it is called the optic nerves. Blindspot: Blindspot is the small region where the optic nerve and the retina meet.
