Ken believes investors pay too much attention to earnings announcements and price-to-earnings ratios. According to Ken, earnings announcements provide little predictive value for long-term investors, although they can generate short-term volatility. Ken emphasizes stock prices reflect the market’s best estimate of a company’s earnings over the next 3 to 30 months, with sentiment surrounding earnings forecasts being largely pre-priced. He thinks long-term investors should not spend much energy on backwards-looking earnings announcements, as they’re unlikely to be something that will move markets.
