Calling anyone who’s bought the perfect jeans only to find that the length isn’t quite right….or if you’re a short girl like me they are usually 5” too long! Full tutorial here: https://youtu.be/BxXCgy_VBj8 We all know that when you hem jeans the traditional way, the look like they have been hemmed. The way to avoid that is to keep the original hem. Here is how to do just that: Put them on and cuff them up to your desired length. Stand up straight and put on some shoes to make sure you like where they hit. Pin just above the cuff. Then measure from the bottom of the cuff to the bottom of the original hem. Pin this way all the way around the leg. Try them on again to be sure. When you have them on, carefully tuck the cuff up into the leg and fold the original hem down just to test the length one more time. Using your zipper foot with the needle all the way to the left, stitch as close to without going over the original hem stitching. Next cut off the excess denim leaving about 1/4”. Zig zag stitch the raw edge. Turn the raw edge to the inside of the leg, fold the original cuff down and press with a hot iron. Top stitch the raw edge in place. Be sure to use thread the same color as your denim so that the thread is not visible!
