Why is number sense so important? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Number sense is crucial for preschoolers since it lays the foundation for understanding more advanced math concepts later in life. Developing number sense early helps kids grasp quantities, patterns, and relationships, which are fundamental skills for problem-solving and critical thinking. Okay cool. What does that mean? 👀 1. When preschoolers understand number sense, they can easily recognize and count objects around them, like counting how many blocks are in a tower or how many apples are on a plate. 2. Number sense also helps preschoolers see patterns, like noticing that when they add one more block to their tower, the total number of blocks increases by one each time. This lays the groundwork for understanding addition later on. 3. With number sense, preschoolers can compare quantities, like noticing that one plate has more cookies than another or that their friend has fewer crayons than they do. 4. Number sense also helps preschoolers understand spatial relationships, like realizing that arranging toys in a line or a circle changes the way they count them. 5. Number sense also allows preschoolers to recognize basic shapes and understand how they relate to numbers, like noticing that a square has four sides or that a triangle has three corners. But it all starts with basic counting and recognizing the quantity of numbers. 👏🏼🧠🔢 Head to my bio for links to everything we used in this activity! Use code KATELYN10 for 10% off your @tivitray!
