The Parks Canada team at the Saguenay-St. Lawrence Marine Park has been monitoring Barrow's Goldeneye for several years in order to understand their use of the marine protected area during the winter. Barrow's goldeneye is a species at risk, 95% of whose eastern population spends the winter in the St. Lawrence Estuary and in the Saguenay-St. Lawrence Marine Park. Initially, the monitoring was carried out only from Baie-des-Rochers located in the Charlevoix region of Quebec. Since 2021, several other locations have been added. The team is continuing this monitoring in collaboration with a local organization, the Tadoussac bird observatory, in order to cover the entire coast of the marine park between Cap-à-l'Aigle and Les Escoumins.
