DHAKA: Police in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka used tear gas and sound grenades on Friday (March 7) to disperse hundreds of members of the banned militant group Hizb-ut-Tahrir marching to demand the country's secular democracy be replaced by an Islamic caliphate. Hundreds of activists chanting “Khilafat, Khilafat” gathered for the ‘March for Khilafat’ procession outside the Baitul Mukarram Mosque after Friday prayers, defying police barricades. A number of alleged members of the banned Islamist group were detained during the demonstration. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police had warned banned organisations on Thursday (March 6) against holding public meetings and rallies. Hizb-ut-Tahrir, banned in Bangladesh since October 2009 for posing a threat to national security, has frequently organised protests and marches in defiance of a government ban on public gatherings. #bangladesh #dhakaprotest #bangladesharmy #live [Source: Reuters/ANI] Join ANI's YouTube membership to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtFQDgA8J8_iiwc5-KoAQlg/join Subscribe now and press the bell icon 🔔 to get new video updates: https://bit.ly/2UV4ygi -------------------------------------- ANI is South Asia's leading Multimedia News Agency providing content for every information platform, including TV, Internet, broadband, newspapers, and mobiles.
