Water is the basis of all life, and our planet faces deepening challenges related to water purity and availability. Jonathan Todd will discuss advanced ecological design projects, including future directions of sustainable wastewater and water management. This will include harvesting the carbon and nutrients from wastewater and converting them to energy and new resources. He will evaluate the promise of natural systems technologies, especially in their ability to break down endocrine disruptors in wastewater. The aesthetics of ecological design in relation to decentralized storm and wastewater systems on a neighborhood scale will be explored. And, finally, Todd will propose a cultural and technological paradigm shift for the management of our vital water resources. In 1995, after 15 years working on governmental development and engineering projects around the world, Jonathan Todd accepted his father's invitation to help shape the vision of John Todd Ecological Design, the company John founded in 1989. Today, Jonathan works closely with each client in the early phases of a project, overseeing the detailed execution of priorities while managing the work of the company's project and engineering teams. Most importantly, Jonathan works closely with John Todd to ensure the completion of each project meets with both the progressive vision of his father and the client's specifications, aesthetic and standards. Jonathan has a keen interest in developing sustainable solutions for refugee populations throughout the world. ---------- About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
