Every single second all around the world, people are joining different “groups” or tribes that align with their values and interests. There are fraternities in American colleges where people join together to network and party There are caucuses in country’s governments where politicians join together to work on specific issues such as finance or the environment There are labor unions where workers join together to petition for better rights for their employment. Everywhere around the globe, people form groups and coalitions to accomplish their life’s goals. The SAME exact thing happens with rappers, you may just not identify it that way, but now you will. Whether it’s a weekly freestyle cypher of actual rappers if you’re in a major urban metropolis, or a Discord server where fans of rap are simply chatting back and forth about the latest releases and drama in the rap game… There are TONS of “self-selecting” groups of people that are interested in finding the newest rappers and rapping the best new flows. The very first thing you need to do is start getting into these groups. The reason this is important is because you need to force your brain to be obsessed with the culture to a point where you are no longer just FOLLOWING the rap industry… You’re actually AHEAD of the curve and creating NEW flows rather than re-creating OLD flows. The rappers that make it in the game and network their rap music the best are always that ones CREATING and not reacting. A great example of this: Remember when New York City was the undisputed Mecca of rap for almost 2 decades? Part of the reason for this was that any rapper that group in a Hip-Hop heavy section of New York, let’s say Brooklyn… Was DEEPLY EMBEDDED (pause) in a self-selecting group of rap “experts” every single day. You need to develop the ability to ADD VALUE to the person before ASKING for something. Adding value meaning… improving THEIR chances to have a successful music career or larger network. The biggest mistake new rap artists make is thinking “NETWORKING” means “PROMOTING MYSELF TO A NETWORK OF PEOPLE”. That’s incorrect. Promoting yourself to a network of people is called ADVERTISING. NETWORKING is assembling (or joining) a team of like-minded people to network IDEAS and ACTIONS to a particular goal. In other words, the best NETWORKERS are the people that can provide VALUE to a person (or team of people) by helping them make valuable ACTIONS towards their goal.
