Fashion &… The Battle of Versailles MINISODE The Battle of Versailles was a historical fashion show held at the Palace on the 28th November 1973 and was the brainchild of American fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert. Lambert had an idea for an event that would showcase the best of French and American designers. On the French side were Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Cardin, Emanuel Ungaro, Christian Dior, and Hubert de Givenchy. On the American side were Oscar de la Renta, Stephen Burrows, Halston, Bill Blass, and Anne Klein. Of the 36 American models, 10 of them were black women, an unprecedented number at the time, and included Pat Cleveland, Billie Blair and Alva Chinn. The event became legendary and established America and American designers as a leading forces in Fashion.
