On Dec 7, 1972, Apollo 17 astronauts took an iconic photo of the Earth that would come to be known as the "Blue Marble." Soon after this photo was released, the conservation movement took off at top speed. Humans finally had a vantage of the home that all people, regardless of nationality or political affiliation, commonly share - it allowed us the ability to see the big picture. Today, we can leverage this view from space to observe how the planet's climate is changing, and how humans are contributing to those changes. This led scientists to ask, how can we see just the human impact on our atmosphere?
