On October 7, 2010, the Legislature of the Province of Ontario passed Bill 103 into law declaring forever the month of June as Italian Heritage month. The act, the Italian Heritage Month Act, received Royal assent on October 25,2010. A special thank you has to go to MPP Mario Sergio, MPP Peter Sherman and MPP Rosario Marchese for their vision in seeing the importance and the significance of this legislation for our community. The passage of the Act resounded with many people within Ontario and across Canada. In fact, Vancouver earlier this year declared June Italian Heritage month and the Province of Nova Scotia is considering it as well. Recognizing the significance of the legislation and its potential impact on our community, Comites, The National Congress of Italian Canadians-Toronto District, Centro Scuola e Cultura Italiana, Villa Charities and the Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association came together to discuss and develop a program for the month of June where we, as a community, will celebrate all things Italian. We are also excited that the first of such celebrations falls on the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy, thus giving us even more reason to celebrate this historic event. The website you are about to enter was created by volunteers from the community. Many of the events sponsored are paid for by members of the community. We would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of all the volunteers that are chairing committees, volunteering time and energy so as to ensure the month of June is a time we can all be proud of our rich heritage. We would like to express our gratitude to those that shared our dream and generously donated resources to make this month a reality. It is only though the hard work and dedication of the "teams" that we can realize a dream such as the one we have now embraced upon.
