The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Yemi Cardoso, has announced the recovery of ₦1 trillion under past development finance programs. Speaking at the Bankers’ Nite organized by the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) in Lagos, Cardoso attributed the recovery to strict monitoring and adherence to guidelines. He highlighted the discontinuation of intervention programs, noting that over ₦10 trillion had previously been injected into various sectors, including agriculture, aviation, and power. Cardoso emphasized that the CBN's current focus is on ensuring effective loan utilization and recovery within a well-governed framework. Looking ahead, Cardoso revealed plans to boost diaspora and foreign investment with a goal of achieving $1 million in monthly diaspora remittance, supported by a resilient FX market. CIBN President, Prof. Pius Olanrewaju, commended the CBN’s policies, affirming their positive impact on Nigeria’s economy and pledging the institute’s continued support in promoting professionalism and ethics in banking. #CBN #YemiCardoso #BankingReforms #EconomicGrowth #DiasporaRemittance #NigerianEconomy #CIBN
