The CEO of Tesla is taking a bold stance on the recent negative publicity surrounding their autopilot technology. A Super Bowl ad from The Dawn Project brought attention to what they claim were "critical safety defects" in Tesla's self-driving vehicles. However... not everyone is convinced that the advertisement was fair or accurate. Twitter users were quick to respond, noting that Dan O'Dowd, the founder of The Dawn Project, was a CEO of a competing company that writes self-driving software, which calls into question his motives. Twitter Community Notes attached to O'Dowd's tweet, stated that his previous attempts to prove Tesla's FSD technology would, quote: "run down a child" unquote, have been debunked. Another journalist came to Tesla's defense, stating that, quote: "In reality, the tech Elon Musk and his team are developing can recognize kids & stop automatically to prevent a crash. Dan O’Dowd is a pathological liar who is organizing a smear campaign against Tesla because he is the CEO of Green Hills Software and they are getting killed by Tesla. Our real world tests prove FSD Beta does respond to children, helping to prevent crashes & save their lives.". Unquote... Elon Musk took to Twitter to respond to a series of posts that expressed support for Tesla. The posts noted that despite Tesla's popularity, the EV market penetration was still only at 6%, and that the general public knew even less about Tesla's Full Self-Driving technology. In response, Musk agreed with the sentiment, Tweeting: “Exactly, This will greatly increase public awareness that a Tesla can drive itself (supervised for now)”. Musk is known for his optimistic and confident attitude, and this response is no exception. Despite the negative implications the ad may have on the automaker's reputation, Musk sees it as an opportunity to educate the public about Tesla's self-driving technology. In his eyes, the increased awareness will only benefit Tesla in the long run, even if it means facing criticism in the short term. Additionally, a Tesla Model Y vehicle was prominently featured in another commercial during the Super Bowl. The ad for Popeye's showed the meme character Dieunerst Collin, arriving at a house driving the Tesla, further emphasizing the reach and recognition of the automaker. Despite the recent negative press surrounding Tesla and its Autopilot feature, the company's stock has only dropped slightly by 5% since last week's high of $214. This minor dip in stock value comes after a meteoric rise from its all-time low of $120 in December 2022. These fluctuations in stock value demonstrate the strong investor sentiment for the electric vehicle company, even in the face of ongoing media criticism. Since Elon Musk took over as CEO and owner of Twitter, Tesla has faced relentless attacks from various media outlets. However, this has not deterred investors from believing in the company and its potential for growth and success in the future.
