Pressure relief spring, made by Brandauer, 2008-12 This spring might look simple and mass-produced, but it is precision engineered. Its job is to stop components in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) from exploding. The LHC, in Switzerland, is the largest piece of scientific equipment in the world. The spring was made by Brandauer, a Birmingham family business which was founded in 1862 as a manufacturer of pen nibs. Presented by C Brandauer & Co. Ltd, 2019 .
