Experience the real Paris at the turn of the 19th century. Filmed along the Bois de Boulogne between 1899 and 1905. Silent footage brought to life and color in 4K 60fps using manual colorization, deep learning algorithms and added sound. Paris from 1890s to 1910 The Belle Époque ( beautiful era) was a period of peace in Europe, when culture, art, style and music flourished. The Edwardian era fashions really stand out in this film. Beautiful elegant dresses, bouffant hair and picture hats dominate this rare glimpse into the past as Parisians enjoy summer days in and around the famous Bois de Boulogne park. Early silent footage filmed between 1887 and 1906 now brought to life in color and sound. By the 1900s Paris fashion designers led the world. Paul Poiret, Jeanne Paquin, Callot Sœurs, Margaine Lacroix, Georges Doeuillet and Redfern. This was also the Paris of Oscar Wilde, Claude Debussy, Eric Satie, Ravel and Stravinsky. While these early clips show a beautiful aspect of Paris, it was not the reality for many of the economic underclass. The Parisian bourgeoisie, were nicknamed the "nouveaux riches" by the upper class. This generation were deeply influenced by the fads of the city's elite. They embraced the social class, or Tout-Paris ("all of Paris") These Parisians set the tone for fashion in particular, making Paris the central hub for western style. There were darker forces at work. The Belle Époque came to an abrupt end with the outbreak of war in Europe in 1914. A timely reminder in these uncertain times, never to be complacent. How I colorized and enhanced this silent footage. I take early fragments of silent 16fps footage and restore them to life by a combination of manual frame by frame colorization as well as the use of deep exemplar-based video colorization techniques. The footage is upscaled and the frames interpolated to a higher frame rate ( in most cases 60 frames per second.) Finally I produce a soundtrack which helps build a new immersive experience for the viewer. Together, these processes revive old fragments of footage, offering audiences a more vivid and engaging glimpse of lives long since lived in the distant past. The colorization process used Deep exemplar-based Video colorization. https://arxiv.org/abs/1906.09909 Support my channel while treating yourself to some magically restored downloadable vintage makeup and hairstyling books from the 1920s to the 1960s - direct to your device : https://vintagemakeupguide.com/
