Noom - diet culture’s new darling! If you’ve spent any amount of time on the internet in the past couple years, chances are you’ve heard of Noom and its claims of being a lifestyle, not a diet, or using intuitive eating and psychology to help people lose weight. Sounds great, right? ….right?! What’s sneaky about Noon is that they reel you in with claims of being more holistic and focused on habit change (both of which I’m all for) - but then once you get into the program, it’s sort of like Weight Watchers repackaged into a modern diet. You log your food every day where the app then uses a traffic light system to rank the ‘healthiness’ of your foods - which is something I address in this video. At the end of the day, Noom is your typical low-calorie diet meant to help people lose weight. But it’s sneaky and insidious in its marketing - which is what I don’t like. It’s fine to have a diet program to help people lose weight, but you need to up front about what it is! In today’s video I’m walking through what exactly Noom is, how they screen you before joining the program, and what exactly the program involves. Then I give you my honest feedback about this diet program - and rank it in comparison to the other diets we’ve debunked in this series (looking at you, Optavia and Herbalife!).
