A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9 hit southwestern Japan late on Monday, prompting the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) to issue a tsunami advisory for Miyazaki Prefecture and nearby Kochi Prefecture. The earthquake occurred at 9:19 PM local time and was centred off the coast of Miyazaki, located on the southern island of Kyushu.
