THE BOOK OF REVELATION AUDIO and TEXT OVERVIEW The Book of Revelation, Read by Alexander Scourby, opens with the apostle John exiled on the island of Patmos where he receives a vision that lifts him beyond the boundaries of earth and time. As he prays on the Lord’s Day, a voice like a trumpet calls to him and he turns to see the risen Christ standing among seven golden candlesticks, His face shining like the sun and His voice like many waters. John falls at His feet in awe, but Christ lays His right hand upon him and tells him not to fear, for He is the first and the last, the one who lives and was dead and is alive forevermore. Christ commands John to write what he sees and send it to seven churches in Asia, each of which receives a message of encouragement, correction, or warning. John is then taken up in the Spirit into the throne room of heaven where he beholds a throne surrounded by a rainbow like an emerald and four living creatures who praise God without ceasing. Twenty four elders cast their crowns before the throne as lightning and thunder roll through the heavens. In the right hand of the One on the throne is a sealed book that no one can open until the Lamb appears, the Lamb who was slain yet stands alive. All of heaven erupts in praise as the Lamb takes the book and begins to open its seals. As each seal is opened, John witnesses scenes of judgment and upheaval. Riders go forth bringing conquest, conflict, famine, and death. Martyrs cry out for justice. Cosmic signs shake the heavens. When the seventh seal is opened, seven angels receive seven trumpets, and with each trumpet blast new judgments fall upon the earth. Mountains burn, seas turn to blood, stars fall, and darkness spreads. Yet even in judgment, God calls humanity to repentance. John then sees a great conflict between the forces of God and the forces of evil. A woman clothed with the sun gives birth to a child who is caught up to God while a great red dragon seeks to destroy Him. The dragon empowers a beast that rises from the sea and another beast that rises from the earth, and together they deceive the world. Yet God seals His faithful ones and preserves them through the trials. Angels proclaim warnings and promises, and the Lamb stands victorious on Mount Zion with His redeemed. Seven angels pour out seven vials of wrath, and the kingdoms of the world tremble. Babylon the great falls, and heaven rejoices at her downfall. John sees Christ return as a conquering King riding a white horse, His name called Faithful and True. The forces of evil are defeated, Satan is bound, and Christ reigns for a thousand years. After a final rebellion is crushed, the dead are judged before the great white throne. At last John beholds a new heaven and a new earth where God dwells with His people. There is no more sorrow, no more pain, and no more death. The holy city, the New Jerusalem, shines with the glory of God, and the river of life flows from His throne.
