Manipur was on high alert this month after the discovery of the bodies of six women and children, reportedly from the majority Meitei community. Meitei groups said that they were kidnapped and killed by armed Kuki groups, sparking violent protests and an internet shutdown in parts of the state. Kuki organisations denied the claims, describing the individuals as "village volunteers"—armed civilians defending their community. The ethnic conflict between Meiteis and Kukis, ongoing since May 2023, has claimed over 200 lives and displaced thousands. The BBC's Anshul Verma and Raghvendra Rao visited Imphal, a Meitei-majority area, and Churachandpur, a Kuki-majority area, to investigate the violence and hear the stories of those affected. #manipurviolence #manipurconflict #manipurissue #manipurclashes #kukis #meiteis #kukismeiteis #Nbirensingh #Manipur #manipurdocumentary #manipurviolenceexplained #meiteicommunity #kukicommunity #imphal #churachandpur Click here to subscribe to our channel 👉🏽 https://bbc.in/3whmDp3 ----------------------------------- This is the official BBC News India channel.
