Mutual funds provide investors broad diversification, professional management, relative low cost, and daily liquidity. ETFs can offer lower operating costs than traditional open-end funds, flexible trading, greater transparency, and better tax efficiency in taxable accounts. There are drawbacks, however, including trading costs and learning complexities of the product. Most informed financial experts agree that the pluses of ETFs overshadow the minuses by a sizable margin. This is information I got all from Fidelty so don’t just take my word for it. The first thing that we need to talk about is the expense ratio. I feel this is often overlooked and people just ignore it or move past it all willy nilly. This is crucial to understand and can save you hundreds of thousands of dollars. An ETF's expense ratio indicates how much of your investment in a fund will be deducted annually as fees. A fund's expense ratio equals the fund's operating expenses divided by the average assets of the fund. But let’s finally dive into the ETFs and if you want to fact check my information all links are down below as I got it from the Vanguard website on 5/27/2022. 6. Vanguard Real Estate ETF (VNQ) As you likely guessed, VNQ invests in real estate. Or, more specifically, real estate investment trusts (REITs). The goal of this ETF is to closely track the returns of the MSCI US Real Estate 25/50 index which is an index designed to capture the large, mid, and small-cap segments of the real estate market. Fund components typically buy and hold commercial real estate properties, such as office buildings, retail properties, and hotels, across the U.S. VNQ’s geographical diversity insulates it from regional economic trends but can’t do much about its exposure to macroeconomic risk, as recessions tend to be bad for the U.S. real estate market writ large. In other words, by investing in ETF, you’ll give your portfolio healthy exposure over the real estate market as a whole. https://investor.vanguard.com/etf/profile/VNQ Fund 5. Vanguard S&P 500 Growth ETF (VOOG) While its sister fund based on the S&P 500 index (ticker symbol: VOO) may get all the attention and we’ll talk about that coming up, the Vanguard S&P 500 Growth ETF has quietly outperformed VOO. https://investor.vanguard.com/etf/profile/performance/voog 4. Vanguard Information Technology ETF (VGT) Next up, we've got the Vanguard Information Technology ETF. This ETF is honestly one of my favorite ETFs ever. This is definitely a more risky ETF investment but will give you insane returns over the years if you have the stomach to hold it. https://investor.vanguard.com/etf/profile/performance/vgt Warren Buffett advocates for most individual investors to simply buy and hold the If you know of any that you’d recommend or that you think I missed please please leave me a comment as I’d love to get new ideas, understand people's perspectives, and genuinely learn.
