Restoration of a Rare WW1 Dagger. See this very old war relic repair in this video. In this restoration video, I'm bringing a rare World War 1 dagger back to life. Finding a war relic from 1915 in such amazing condition is incredibly uncommon, making this repair project even more special. ABOUT THIS WW1 TRENCH DAGGER: This dagger was generously donated by one of my Italian subscribers who has enjoyed my previous war relic restorations. Originally, this dagger was a Piemonte National Guard knife dating back to the mid-1800s. It was later modified to be more effective in trench warfare during WW1. This historical dagger most likely belonged to an Italian "Arditi," an elite special forces unit from the Royal Italian Army during World War 1. The Arditi were among the first modern storm troops and were famously known as "the most feared corps by opposing armies." During the Great War, Italy fought alongside Serbia, Russia, France, Britain, and the United States against the Central Powers: Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire. To restore this dagger feels like being entrusted with a genuine historical treasure. ABOUT THE RESTORATION: I began by carefully removing corrosion from the brass fittings to safely disassemble the dagger. Remarkably, the blade and handle were in excellent condition, needing only minor repairs. I gently sandblasted the blade, then MIG welded reinforcement onto the upper portion, which had significant wear. A substantial crack at the tip of the blade required precise TIG welding due to the metal's fragility. After welding, I carefully ground and hardened the blade, meticulously preserving its authentic WW1 trench modifications. The dagger's beautiful antique handle received a gentle sandblasting. A notable hole in one quillon was filled with solder and carefully reshaped using precision files, resulting in a seamless repair. This restoration was incredibly satisfying and ranks among my personal favorites. It’s always rewarding to carefully restore a piece of history, preserving its authentic look while repairing damage.
